I grew up in North Philadelphia as a Catholic. I attended Gesu Catholic School and West Catholic High School. I enjoy dancing (ballet, jazz, hiphop) and listening to music. I entered the military straight from high school after being awarded a full scholarship to Penn State. I served my time and am now able to attend school full time.

Is there a quote that you live by? Please tell us why.
Treat others the way you would want to be treated. Every human being deserves respect and dignity, so I portray it so that I can get it in return.

Nursing Students: Why do you want to become a nurse?
I enjoy helping others. I have always had a passion for medicine. Plus if you look at the whole scenario, nurses are at the front line, they are the comforting communication between the doctors and patients. They make the first impression.

Nursing Students: What do you think will be your favorite part of the job?
Being able to comfort others while giving them the special care they deserve.

Nursing Students: What will be your area of specialty and why?
OB/GYN or Maternal Fetal Medicine : I have worked in the field as a Medical Assistant for 3 years and absolutely enjoy the field. Taking a part in bringing new life into the world is rewarding.

Nursing Students: What is your favorite subject or toughest subject in school? How can someone prepare for it?
My favorite subject just happens to be a tough subject as well, that would be all my sciences…It’s not a subject where you can take off a couple of days and say I’ll get to it later. It’s like constructing a building; you have to make sure you have your foundation and then continue to build on top.

Nursing Students: How do you finance your education? Do you get tuition reimbursement?
I served 4 year in the military and now I am able to get VA Education Assistance along with grants and students loans.

Nursing Students: How do you manage your family and nursing school? Do you work full-time, too? How do you manage that, too?
I currently am not working, I have dedicated myself to school full-time so that I can get out in the field I love most and become a person my children can admire. Family life and school can be challenging at times: my homework, their homework, grooming, meals, and just “us time” can make a day too short.

Nursing students: What do you think will be a challenge as a nurse?
The only thing I can see being a challenge right now for me is being new in the field and being accepted mostly by staff. But I am a people person so I know it would be a factor for long.

Nurses and Nursing Students: What advice would you offer to anyone who wants to become a nurse or attend nursing school?
It is a rewarding field, definitely go for it especially if you like caring for others. Just know that it takes hard work and dedication to be successful in every aspect of the field.
